
North Carolina-based racking supplier Opsun Systems announced the immediate availability and shipping of its new SunRail Inverter Rack.
Designed to eliminate the unstandardized field improvisation often associated with mounting heavy string inverters on commercial and industrial (C&I) rooftops, the aluminum structure expands on the engineering architecture of the company’s existing flat-roof product portfolio.
The structural engineering properties of the system are optimized for severe environmental loading on low-slope surfaces up to 7°. Manufactured using 6000-series structural aluminum and paired with 306 stainless steel bolts and nuts, the frame is rated to withstand maximum wind loads up to 180 mph and maximum snow loads up to 100 PSF depending on project-specific configurations.
The hardware footprint for a single, standalone inverter rack unit covers 15 square feet of roof space and carries a total base racking weight of 60 lbs, imposing a localized dead load on the roof membrane between 5 to 15 PSF.
The modular mounting structure can scale to support between one and six inverter units per row, allowing field flexibility across varied electrical string layouts. To reduce on-site labor times for engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractors, the racking assemblies ship pre-assembled from the manufacturer’s regional production lines.
The system features a standard 10° tilt angle, with customizable pitches up to 20° available upon request, and utilizes a standardized single-nut hardware configuration across all connection points. All mounting components are designed to slide freely within integrated rail channels, allowing mechanics to make precise adjustments for uneven roof surfaces, tapered insulation, or structural irregularities without requiring custom field cutting or fabrication.
The product line also includes an optional, universal Inverter Cover bundled accessory manufactured from folded aluminum to shield components from direct solar radiation. The canopy features an open-sided design to facilitate unobstructed ambient airflow for thermal management, and utilizes an integrated hood mechanism that lifts like a vehicle hood to provide maintenance technicians full access to internal wiring compartments without disassembling the racking frame.
The protection accessory is explicitly compatible with large-scale hardware lines, including SolarEdge Three Phase Inverters with Synergy Technology ranging from SE80KUS through SE120KUS configurations. For anchorage, the base rails are compatible with standard commercial roof attachment systems including OMG, U-Anchor, S-5!, and Facet systems, across built-up, TPO, EPDM, asphalt, and standing-seam metal roofs.
“What we kept hearing from EPCs was that inverter placement on the roof was still a field problem, no standardized solution, a lot of improvisation,” said François Gilles-Gagnon, president of Opsun Systems. “The SunRail platform lent itself well to solving that. The Inverter Rack is built on the same engineering logic: aluminum construction, engineered for real site conditions, and fast to install.”
