The battery, built by Ausgrid, will support local energy security and grid reliability while putting downward pressure on electricity bills. It also introduces ‘Energy Storage as a Service,’ a new initiative in partnership with retailers Origin Energy and EnergyAustralia. This service has the potential to save eligible customers more than $200 annually.

Minister Bowen highlighted the importance of the community battery in increasing access to cleaner energy and improving grid resilience. “The Bondi battery is a key component of our Reliable Renewables plan, bringing affordable and sustainable energy solutions to communities across the country,” Bowen said.

Member Spender emphasized the benefits for the Wentworth community, noting that the new battery will provide cleaner, cheaper electricity and extend the advantages of solar energy to renters and apartment dwellers.

The Bondi community battery is part of the Albanese Government’s broader initiative to deploy over 400 community batteries nationwide, aimed at democratizing access to renewable energy and enhancing overall energy efficiency.

This launch represents a crucial advancement in Australia’s journey towards a smarter, more sustainable electricity grid.
